Lowell Gove

Lowell Gove, son of Charles Benjamin and Ella Gulick Gove was born in Raritan, Illinois on January 6, 1897 and departed this life after a lingering illness May 25, 1972 at the Holden Nursing Home, Keosauqua, Iowa.

He moved to Iowa in 1906 and other than time spent in service during WW I and a year in California, he spent the rest of his life in Van Buren County, farming south of Keosauqua until he moved into town in 1967.

On Dec. 7, 1819(?1919) he married Nannie Hull and to this union two daughters were born. She passed away on Dec. 7, 1947.

On Oct. 17, 1958 he married Helen Chafer who survives along with two daughters, Mrs. Kathryn McCord of Bismark, Missouri and Mrs. Helen Blackburn of Keosauqua. Other survivors include two step-children, Robert Chafer of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Mrs. Barbara Elliott of O'Fallon Illinois, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, one brother Gordon and one sister Claire Brownlee, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother and infant sister.

He was a fifty year member of The American Legion.

The funeral services in charge of the Catcott Funeral Home were held at the United Methodist Church in Keosauqua Saturday May 27, 1972 at 2:00 p.m. Officiating were Rev. James M. Ford assisted by Rev. Millard Marshall.
