Jessie A. Smutz

Jessie A. Smutz, 89, died Sunday evening, Nov. 28 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Born Sept. 18, 1882, in Ebenezer community, Jefferson County, she was the daughter of J.C. and Laura Case Helfenstine. She married Ray Smutz Aug. 18, 1901. He died Oct. 29, 1941.

She was a member of the Ebenezer Christian Church and lived all her life in Jefferson and Van Buren counties. Her parents and one sister preceded her in death.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Hazel Marie Hazel of Oklahoma City; two sons, harry of Crescent Lake, Ore., and B.R. Smutz of Lincoln, Neb.; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Ernest of Greeley,Colo., F.L. (Nick) and William of Fairfield, James and Russell of Lockridge; and two sisters, Mrs. Kitty Archibald of Lockridge and Myrtle Johnston of Birmingham.

Services will be held Thursday, at 1:30 p.m. at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. James Stumbo officiating. Burial was in Hillsboro Cemetery.
