One teen-ager was killed and three hospitalized as a result of a one-car accident at 9:15 p.m. Friday one and one-half miles southwest of Bonaparte on a country gravel road.

Kenneth Ferrel, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ferrel of rural Birmingham died at the scene.

Taken to Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua, were: Robert Canaday, 15, son of the Ralph Canadays of Keosauqua. He received deep lacerations and bruises.

Donald Jack Ward, 17, son of Mrs. Norma Ward of Keosauqua, received a broken leg, cuts and bruises.

John Franklin, 18, of Keosauqua rural route, driver of the car, received lacerations and bruises. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Robert Franklin.

Franklin was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol. His 1957 model car was westbound when the accident happened. The vehicle rolled several times. It was a total loss. The accident is under investigation by the Van Buren County Sheriff's office and the Iowa Highway Patrol.

Kenneth Wayne Ferrel was born Feb. 20, 1955 at Keosauqua, the son of Frank L. and Dorothy Bedford Ferre.

He was a junior in Van Buren Community High School.

Surviving are his parents, two sisters, Mrs. Virginia Lathrop of Pleasant Plaine; and Mrs. Beverly Jester of Fairfield; one brother, Frank Jr. at home; his grandparents, Mrs. Harold Moore of Milton, Mr. and Mrs. Frank L. Ferrel of rural Keosauqua.

The funeral service was held Monday, Sept. 6, at 10:30 a.m. in the Catcott Funeral Home, Keosauqua. The Rev. Millard Marshall, pastor of the Congregational church officiated. Burial was in Mt. Moriah cemetery near Douds.
