Edward L. Chambers

Edward Louis Chambers, 68, of 824 High Street, Keokuk, died at 2:05 a.m. Friday, Aug. 27 at his home. He had been ill for more than two years.

Born July 12, 1903 in Keokuk, he was the son of Fred D. and Dora Bell High Chambers. The retired printer at the Gate City began his position on the newspaper at age 17 and retired in September of 1968 at the age of 65.

The life-long resident of Keokuk was married to Katheryn Ricker on June 22, 1927 in Keokuk. He was a member of the St. John's Episcopal church, where he served on the vestry and church clerk. He was a member of Hardin Lodge No. 29 A.F. and A.M. and past master of the group and in the High-12 club. Having served more than 15 years on the Keokuk school board, Mr. Chambers was secretary and president of Local 68 of the International Typographical Union.

Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Jack (Ileen) Fader of Keokuk, Mrs. Alan (Anita)Terpening of LaMesa, Calif., Mrs. Robert (Sara) Heston, of Keokuk; one son, Donald L. Chambers of San Diego, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Lela Mae Russell of Bonaparte, Ia.; three brothers, Fred Chambers of Bonaparte and Irvin and Charles Chambers, both of Keokuk.

Fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive, in addition to several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two son, Norris and Gene, and four brothers.

The funeral service was held Monday, Aug. 30, 1971 at the Episcopal Church at 2:30 p.m. Masonic services were held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the DeJong Funeral Home.
