Edward Knecht

Edward A. Knecht, 83, of 231 N. Davis, died at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Hospital, where he had been since Sunday. He was a retired farmer and lived most of his life in the Douds community.

The son of Francis and Theresa Knecht, he was born Sept. 28, 1887, near Douds. He married Maude Shaffer in 1915. She died in 1957. Four brothers and three sisters also preceded him in death.

Surviving are two sons, Francis of Ottumwa and Donald of Riverview, Mich.; a daughter, Mrs. Kathryn Stroud of Braidwood, Ill.; 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a brother, Frank of Birmingham.

He was a member of St. Aloysius Cahtolic Church in Eldon, where the service will be Saturday at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. D.L. Waldschmidt. Burial will be in the Calvary section of the Eldon Cemetery.

The Rosary will be recited Friday at 8:30 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds.
