Mina R. Beggs

Mina R. Beggs, daughter of Josiah and Bertha Fickel was born Sept. 24, 1904, near Stockport and died Tuesday, May 1, 1984 at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua at the age of 79.

She graduated from Stockport High School and Burlington Hospital School of Nursing. Early in life, she taught school.

Mina was director of nurses in a Galesburg, Illinois hospital, did private nursing, and was head nurse at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua from its opening in 1949 until she retired in 1968.

In May, 1935 she married Ross Brown "Hep" Beggs at Kahoka, Mo. They lived in Keosauqua until 1942 when they moved to Milton. Mr. Beggs died in 1951. A brother, Don Fickel, and two sisters, Dott McIntosh and Zella Archibald also preceded her in death.

Remaining are a sister, Georgia McIntosh of Billings, Mont., several nieces and nephews including Mildred Boyle of Morning Sun, Betty Van Ausdall of Salem, Ill., and Cheryl Farrington of Ottumwa, other relatives and many friends.

Mina was a long-time member of the Milton Christian Church, Chapter AD, P.E.O., and for many years was active in the Order of Eastern Star.

She cared for the sick and afflicted throughout her long and effective career.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 4, 1984 at 11 a.m. in the Milton Christian Church, with Rev. Ed Pool officiating. Interment was in Sunnyside Cemetery, Milton. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua. A memorial was established for her church.
