Manly Beggs

Manley E. Beggs of Sigourney, Iowa, died at the Keokuk County Hospital on April 5, 1984.

He was born March 8, 1914 at Leando, the son of Earl and Eva Cochran Beggs. He attended country school in the Milton area. He was employed in the Milton area until 1964 when he moved to Sigourney. He was employed by Kingsberry Homes for 11 years and by Keokuk County Expo for three years.

He was a veteran of World War II and received the European, African, Middle Eastern Theater Ribbons with five Bronze Battle Stars, one Service Stripe, six Overseas Service Bars and a Good Conduct Medal.

He was a member of the United Methodist church and Leo Farmer American Legion Post 19.

He married Mary Miller March 3, 1946 at Mt. Pleasant. She survives. Also surviving are a son and his wife, James and Helen Beggs of San Diego, Calif.; and a daughter Kay of Sigourney. Also three grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Stanley and Ethel Beggs of Milton. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Dale.

Funeral services were held April 7 at the United Methodist church in Sigourney with the Rev. Gary Dobbins officiating. Mrs. Charles Phelps was organist and Walter Fagen, soloist. Burial was at Sunnyside Cemetery, Milton.

Military rites were by Leo Farmer American Legion Post, 19 of Sigourney and Russell Strait American Legion Post 483 of Milton.

Memorials may be given.

Arrangements were by Holm Funeral Home.
