Lester Farrell

Funeral services for Lester Farrell, 85, of River Hills Nursing Home, and formerly of Montrose, who died Monday evening at Keokuk Area Hospital, will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Greaves Mortuary with the Rev. David Goetsch officiating.

Due to Holy Week, a memorial mass will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Rev. Clifford Egert officiating.

Friends may visit the funeral home from 6:30-9 p.m., Wednesday. The rosary will be reccited at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Keokuk Catholic school system.

Farrell was born Sept. 19, 1897, in Montrose Township, the son of John and Minerva Mize Farrell. He married Esther Clingman Dec. 21, 1921 near Farmington, Iowa.

Farrell was a well-known farmer, a member of the Farm Bureau, and was employed 25 years with the Santa Fe Railroad before retiring in 1947.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Montrose.

He is survived by three sons, F.L. Farell Jr. of Dededo, Guam, Charles, of Grayson, La., and Leo, of San Diego, Calif.; five daughters, Mrs. J.A. (Evelyn) Cunningham, and Mrs. Michael (Dorothy) Piano, both of Cheverly, Mo., Mrs. David (Rose) Pugh, of Pompano Beach, Fla., Mrs. Mary Miller and Mrs. Bill (Colleen) Richards of Keokuk; a brother, Thomas, of Burlington, Iowa; 30 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, an infant son, a brother and a sister.
