Georgia Van Hyning

FT. MADISON - Georgia L. Van Hyning, 73, of Ft. Madison Rt. 1, died at 8:05 a.m. Sunday, May 23, at her daughter's home.

She was born Jan. 14, 1909 at Ottumwa, to George and Bertha McFarland McNulty. She married William A. Van Hyning Aug. 20, 1925, at Ft. Madison. He died Dec. 22, 1967.

The first woman bus driver in the Ft. Madison school system, she later owned the Great River Motel for 15 years. She was a member of Denmark Congregational United Church of Christ, Sawyer Circle, Farm Bureau and the National Association of Retired Railway Employees.

Surviving: One son, Kenneth L., Ft. Madison; two daughters, Mrs. Floyd (Betty) Cowles, Ft. Madison, and Mrs. Kathy Durand, Ft. Madison; five grandchildren; a brother, Floyd McNulty, Ontario, Calif.; and one sister, Mrs. Thad (Frances) Gaston, Farmington.

Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, King-Lynk Funeral Home, the Rev. John Lewis; Denmark Cemetery. A memorial has been established for her church.
