MRS. ROY RATCLIFF

Mrs. Roy Ratcliff, 85, well known resident of the Douds community, died at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13 at the Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua.

Last rites were held Thursday, July 15 at 2 p.m. at the Pedrick Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Nicholson in charge. Burial was in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery.

The daughter of Peter and Davina Taylor Armentrout, Pearl Ratcliff was born Aug. 1, 1881, near Selma.

She spent her entire life in Van Buren County. On Jan. 28, 1900, she was married to Roy A. Ratcliff at the Ratcliff homestead north of Douds. The old home had been in the Ratcliff name for over 100 years until it was sold only a short time ago.

In 1922, Mr. and Mrs. Ratcliff moved to Douds. He and their sons operated the Ratcliff Coal Company for many years before it closed.

Mrs. Ratcliff is survived by her husband and two sons, Gerald and Ivan Ratcliff, both of Douds. She is also survived by three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren. One son, Dale, died in 1962.

Mrs. Ratcliff was a member of the Christ Methodist Church in Douds, and was a past most excellent chief of the Douds Temple, Pythian Sisters of which she had been a member for 45 years.
