LAWRENCE SMITH

Lawrence William Smith, 61, 1346 Griswold, Burlington, was pronounced dead on arrival at Burlington hospital, Thursday, Aug. 3 at 8 p.m.

He was born Sept. 10, 1905, in Lee County, the son of Jasper and Mary Anders Smith. On Dec. 13, 1930, he married Florence Van Trump in Canton, Mo. He was a guard at the Ft. Madison penitentiary. He was a member of the Oak Street Baptist church, Burlington Eagles and the Geo. Washington lodge AF & AM at Donnellson.

Surviving are the wife, two sons, Donald and Delbert of Burlington; two daughters, Mrs. Patricia Hymes of Burlington and Mrs. Selma Parker of Bonaparte; four sisters, Mrs. Leota Overton of Burlington, Mrs. Lulu Pickard of Ft. Madison; Mrs. Verna Knedler of Farmington and Mrs. Delpha Umphrey of Keosauqua, and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 P.M., Sunday at the Oak Street Baptist church in Burlington in charge of the Rev. John Ziegler. Burial was in Aspen Grove cemetery.
