MRS. WILSON RENEKER

Mrs. Margaret Ellen Reneker, 101, of Birmingham, widow of Wilson Dallas Reneker, died Wednesday night, March 12, at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua, where she had been a patient three months.

Born May 16, 1867, in Jefferson County, she was the daughter of Louie and Elizabeth Weist Nickel. She was married Sept. 22, 1887, at Fairfield. Her husband died July 21, 1948.

Mrs. Reneker was a member of the Birmingham Free Methodist church, where a memorial was established.

The Douds American Legion was named after Mrs. Reneker's son, who died in World War I. Mrs. Reneker was a charter member of the Douds American Legion Auxiliary.

Funerals services were held Saturday, March 15, at 1 p.m. at the Burch Funeral Home in Birmingham with the Rev. Robert Mann officiating. Interment was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery near Douds.

ATTENDS FUNERAL OF MRS. RENEKER

Mrs. Trilla Cass of Bonaparte attended the funeral service Saturday afternoon for Mrs. Margaret Ellen Reneker, 101, in the Burch Funeral Home, Birmingham.

Known as "Aunt Ella" Mrs. Reneker is a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary at Douds, where the Legion Post was named for her son, John Hyson, who was with the Rainbow Division in World War I and died in France in 1918.

On her 100th birthday anniversary, May 16, 1967, Aunt Ella received state-wide attention from newspaper interview and her pictures which were featured in many newspapers. The day climaxed a week of special courtesies and celebrations for Mrs. Reneker.

She loved people and remained active, alert and interested all her life. She will long remembered by many.
