Mrs. Phil Pender

Mrs. Velma Catherine Pender, 56, died unexpectedly Sunday, Jan. 26 at 1 a.m. at her home.

The daughter of John and Bertha Syfert Carter, she was born in Stockport Aug. 17, 1907. She was married to Phil Pender Sept. 2, 1925.

Besides her widower, survivors included five daughters, Mrs. Mildred Martin of Weaver, Mrs. Marjorie Harward of Cantril, Mrs. Mary Lou Moffitt of Danville and Marcella and Marlene Pender, at home; six sons, Lester of Milton, Leo and Lawrence, both of East Moline, Ill., Lowell of Edwards, Calif., Larry, who recently returned from service, and Lynn of Marshalltown; 20 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lena Clark of Stockport, and Mrs. Gladys Riley of Hillsboro; four brothers, Charles Carter of Mt. Sterling, Roger Carter of Hillsboro, Glen Carter of Keosauqua and James Carter of Moline, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandchild.

The funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 27 at the Milton Christian Church with the Rev. Lowell Paulson officiating. Burial was in Sunnyside Cemetery at Milton.
