Mrs. Bertha I. Ploss

Mrs. Bertha I. Ploss, daughter of Fred S. and Margaret Sauvel Plowman, was born Aug. 8, 1883, on a farm south of Douds and departed this life Thursday, Jan. 4, 1968, at the Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 84. Her entire life was spent in the Douds community.

On March 16, 1904, she was married to John Ploss. Mr. Ploss passed away in 1953. Also preceding her in death were a sister, Mrs. Minnie Hoskin and two brothers, George and Otis Plowman.

Remaining to mourn her passing are a daughter, Verla (Mrs. E. J. Chartrand) of Falls Church, Virginia; a son, Van Ploss of Ft. Madison; a grandson, John Ploss; 3 granddaughters, Mrs. James Blinn, Mrs. George Brooks, and Mrs. Richard Cole; 5 great-grandchildren; a brother, Noble Plowman, Douds; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Mrs. Ploss will be remembered as a good neighbor and friend who did her bit to make life more pleasant for all who knew her.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 6, 1968 at 2 P.M. at the Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with the Rev. Herbert Phillips officiating. Vocalists were Mrs. Keith A. Smith and Mrs. Robert Pedrick, accompanied by Mrs. Max Caves. Pallbearers were Wallace Benge, Theodore Plowman, Ernest Bates, Stephen Carr, Marvin Roush. Interment was in the Leando Cemetery.
