John L. Johnson, 94, of West Burlington, died April 8, 2014, at the Blair House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Burlington.

Born December 8, 1919, in Bonaparte, IA, he was the son of Leslie and Adie Mae Lindsey Johnson. On March 27, 1947, he married Juanita L. Therme in Fort Madison.

John worked as an instrument technician for Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. After his retirement he set up grandfather clocks for the Carriage House and repaired watches for Samuel's Jewelry.

He was a U.S. Marines Veteran, serving during WWII stationed in the Aleutian Islands in 1941 and after Pearl Harbor he was stationed in the South Pacific. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from June 12, 1941, until May 9, 1947.

In 1951 he graduated from watchmaking school in Kansas City, KS.

He was a member of the Watchmaker's Guild, First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and was a Mason. He enjoyed traveling and camping with his wife and his family.

Survivors include his wife Juanita, two daughters, Candy Balzer of West Burlington, Brenda (Chris) Williams of Burlington; five grandchildren, Phillip (Marcia) Dickman, Timothy (Trisha) Dickman, Angela Runnells, Steven (Tammy) Dickman, and Jennifer (Brad) Hoenig, nine greatgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, four brothers, and two sisters.

A graveside service for John and Juanita Johnson was held August 19, 2017, Greenglade Cemetery in Farmington.
