Hilma Pauline Dicks, 74, of Ottumwa, formerly of Bloomfield and Agency, died June 17, 2017, at Good Samaritan Society - Ottumwa.

She was born August 6, 1942, in Fairfield, IA, to Ivan C. and Lucille McFarland Fray. She was adopted at age 11 by Alfred and Clara Finke Johnson. She married Ernest Dicks on December 29, 1973, in Iowa City.

Pauline was a 1962 graduate of Iowa City High School. Pauline loved children and ran an in-home day care for many years. She also worked as a home health aide for Ottumwa Regional Home Care.

She was a member of Ottumwa Church of the Brethren. Pauline’s true passion was taking care of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed collecting a variety of treasures, putting puzzles together, and crafting.

Surviving is her husband, Ernest; two daughters, Sara (Tim) Sprouse of Selma, IA, and Stephanie (Jeff) Diener of Sheboygan, WI; six grandchildren, Hannah and Emily Sprouse, Aidan, Ambryn, Asa, and Amos Diener; one sister, Linda McNatt of Albuquerque, NM; three brothers, Carl Miller of Oregon, Ivan Carbaugh of Oklahoma City, OK, and Warren (Elizabeth) Wehmeyer of Washington; one adoptive sister, Virginia (Keith) Eden of Lone Tree; six brothers-in-law, Gene Johnson of Greenville, TN, Richard (Nancy) Boyd of Ottumwa, Tom Samsel of Lakeside, IA, Earl (Jackie) Dicks of Ottumwa, Robert (Joan) Dicks of Batavia, Carl (Vonnie) Dicks of Algona; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Handy of Ottumwa, Karen Johnson of Iowa City, Jane Dicks of Bloomfield, a very special friend and sister-in-law, Karen Bailey of Ottumwa; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and adoptive parents; three sisters, Virginia Johnson, Lauretta Joyce Boyd, and Joann Samsel; two brothers, Frank Wehmeyer and Steven Handy; an adoptive brother, Lloyd Johnson, and four brothers-inlaw, Charles Dicks, Kenny Dicks, Keith Madden and Kenneth Bailey.

Funeral services were held June 21, 2017, at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with Rev. Tim Curtiss officiating. Burial was in Shaul Cemetery.
