Death of Mrs. Mattie Gregory

Mattie A. Johnson, daughter of Enos and Mary Johnson, was born in North Carolina December 2, 1842. She died November 23, 1922 aged 79 years 11 months and 21 days.

She moved form the state of North Carolina to the state of Indiana, after living there for a few years she moved to the state of Iowa and settled at Richland, which has since been her home.

She was married to Numidia Gregory June 6 1878, who preceded her in death 25 years ago. To this union were born five children, two sons Allen Holms who died in infancy and Clinton Franklin who died July 22 1921, three daughters Mrs. Myrtle Woollum of Blakesburg Iowa, Mrs. Ethel Dutton of West Liberty Iowa, Mrs. Corda Morrow of Richland and daughter-in-law Mrs. Rosa Gregory.

Mrs. Gregory was one of a family of eight children. She was a devoted Christian, having been a member of the Friends church at Richland for the past thirty years. She was a faithful loving wife and mother, devoting her life to her family and all who were in need. Always thinking of others instead of herself.

Besides her three daughters she leaves to mourn her departure two stepsons, Levi Gregory of Oakland California and S A Gregory of Stockport Iowa, and two stepdaughters, Mrs Rebecca Bottorff of Osborn Kansas and Mrs Nina Howell of Fairfield several grandchildren, one brother H.F. Johnson of Tacoma Washington many other relatives and a host of friends.
