Evelyn S. Hootman, age 91, formerly of Birmingham, IA, died January 17, 2017, at Sunnybrook Living Care Center in Fairfield.
She was born February 4, 1925, at Albany, NY, the daughter of Daniel and Rose Duker Saulsbery.

She grew up in Albany where she attended school, moving to Iowa in 1945.

She was married and later divorced Mervin Skirvin and Richard Hootman.

Evelyn moved to California in 1963, then to New York for 12 years before returning to Iowa.

Evelyn worked as a telephone operator for 20 years, both in California and for United Telephone Company in Fairfield, and as a cook at Parsons College. She enjoyed reading, especially mysteries, and loved all kinds of music, especially Dean Martin.

Deceased family members include her son, John Skirvin, her parents and her sister, Bee Woodruff. Surviving are her two daughters: Joyce (Francis) Coffin of Birmingham and Roseann (Roger) Light of Rolla, MO.; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and one brother, Jack Saulsbery of Albany, NY.

Graveside services were held January 21 at Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham with Francis Coffin officiating.

Raymond Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
