OBITUARIES

MRS. JAMES D. HOLIDAY

Susanah Fickel was born in Fairfield county, Ohio, June 8, 1842, and died at her home in Utica, Van Buren county, Iowa, April 18, 1907, of cancer, aged 64 years, 10 months and 8 days. She came with her parents to this county in 1846, settling with them a half mile west of Utica, and there she was married to James D. Holiday, Dec. 11, 1862. Her home was always in that locality except a few years' residence near Hillsboro, and on a farm in Des Moines township, this county. Four children were born to them, viz., Mrs. Floe Beer of Keosauqua; Frank, who died Dec. 16, 1875, at the age of 8 years; Harvey, who lives in Colorado, and Aaron, who resides in Utica. In 1876 she united with the Free Will Baptist church at Hillsboro, and ever afterward remained a faithful member. She had been in declining health for nearly two years preceding her death and towards the last suffered much. She was a good woman, beloved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed in the community of Utica where the great part of her life was passed. She is a sister of Mrs. George Day of Keosauqua. The funeral services were in charge of Rev. McElroy and the burial was in the Hillsboro cemetery.
