Man, daughter killed in one-car accident

A former Van Buren resident and his daughter were killed in a one-car accident four miles southeast of Stockport on Highway 16, August 2.

Authorities say Tony Lee Doud, 37 and Samorya Lee Doud, 9, died Tuesday afternoon in the crash.

Authorities said the 1984 Chevy Blazer Doud was driving stuck(struck) a bridge abutment while travelling eastbound on Highway 16 east of the Utica turnoff.

The vehicle came to rest on the eastbound lane of Highway 16.

Authorities can't speculate on the cause of the crash, only to say there were no skid marks.

Tony Lee Doud, 1305 S. Main, Burlington, was pronounced dead at the scene, while Samorya Lee Doud was air cared to Iowa City, where she died at approximately 3:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

The accident was investigated by the Iowa State Patrol.

Called to assist were the Van Buren and Jefferson County Jaws of Live, Stockport fire department, Van Buren Sheriff's Department and two doctors.

Tony Doud graduated from Van Buren High school in 1970 and was a talented athlete and musician.

Tony starred on the 1969 Van Buren Football team which went undefeated, the first time a Keosauqua football team was undefeated since 1925.

Tony Doud was born March 7, 1951; date of birth for Samorya Lee Doud was not listed.
