There is a marriage for S. A. Hughes and Nellie Riddle on 5 August 1881 in Pomona, Franklin, Kansas. He was 29 and she was 18. This fits with the 1900 census which has Samuel born July 1853 and Nellie born March 1865 since Nellie may have said that she was 18. Osage and Franklin Counties are adjoining.
