JOHN W. COLLIER SR.

John W. Collier, 79, of Creston died Jan. 15, 2003, at his home.

Services were 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at Coen-Beatty-Pearson Family Funeral Services, 809 W. Montgomery St., The Rev. Byron Lamun, pastor of the First Christian Church, officiated. Burial was in Harmony Ridge Cemetery in Union County. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Mr. Collier, son of Roxie Mae Archer and Elmer Winfield Collier, was born July 7, 1923, in Grant City, Mo. On April 9, 1950, he married Dorothea Kilgore in Mount Ayr. On Nov. 20, 1993, he married Dorothy Moore in Creston. He worked for rodeo circuit as a horse manager and bronc rider, drilled oil rigs in Wyoming, was a heavy equipment operator, driver for hauling mobile homes from Texas and worked as a farm hand from 1960 to 1998. He lived most of his life in Belton, Mo., and Cromwell from 1990 until moving to Creston in 1999. He was a member of Eagles Club No. 1398 in Creston and First Christian Church in Gravity.

Survivors include three daughters, Teresa (husband Jason) Keimig of Lawrence, Kan., Teletha Hays of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Aletha (husband Terry) Avery of Portland, Ore.; two sons John W Collier Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va., and Charles Collier of Atchison, Kan.; a stepdaughter, Sandy Lauer of Creston; two sisters, Lorraine Comer of Nebraska and Pearl Masy of Tingley; a sister in law, Etha Pearl Collier of Missouri; seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives; a brother Everett Collier; and two brothers-in-law.
