Gladys J. Nelson, 86, of Creston died July 21, 1998, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. July 24 at Graceland Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Maxa officiating. There is open visitation 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Coen-Beaty Funeral Home, 809 W. Montgomer Street. Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Nelson was born Sept. 6, 1911, in Creston to Frank and Mary Marie (Hagedorn) Bender. She married Glen [n] Haynes. On Dec. 4, 1969, she married Melvin Nelson in Hopkins, Mo. She was employed as a housekeeper at Crest Haven Care Centre, retiring in 1981. She was a lifelong resident of Creston and a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include three step-daughters, Carolyn and Marilyn Nelson of Creston and Karen Davis of Maryland; and four step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, a brother and sisters, Dorothy Tussey, Nellie Bender and Frances Brown.
