Waukon Standard:—Miss Effie Olson (Saga) of Taylor passed through a sad ordeal at LaCrosse recently, where she has been staying with a sister, Mrs. Oscar Johnson, for the last four years. On the evening of Dec. 28th her betrothed, Mr. Nels M. Christianson of the firm of P. A. Thompson & Co., called on the young lady and an agreement was made to have the wedding the following Saturday. Instead of going to a minister to secure his services for the event he, the prospective groom, repaired to his apartment and with a rope hung himself to a hook fastened to the ceiling. He left a note stating that Miss Olson should become the owner of $1035 in money, mostly gold, but in case she refused to accept it it should become the property of his two sisters in the old country. As the note or instrument, is perhaps not legally a will, it is presumed the rightful heirs will inherit the property of their relative. No cause is assigned for the rash act.
