DEATH OF BENJAMIN WILLHOIT SMITH.
Benjamin Willhoit Smith was born November 21, 1838 in Russell County, Kentucky, and departed this life April 25, 1917, aged 78 years, five months and four days. He was united in marriage to Sarah E. Deter in 1868 at Monticello, Illinois. To this union were born eight children, four of which are still living. They are Mrs. Ada Bawyer of Monticello, Ill., Elias B. Smith, of White Head, Ill., Charles C. Smith and Pearl German of Benton, Iowa. Charles and Pearl were both with him during the last hours of this life.
Those who have preceded him to the Great Beyond are Aaron Franklin Smith, who passed away August 5, 1884, Wilkerson Smith, August 27, 1878; Mary A. Shafer, July 15, 1905; and Sadie B. Newton, November 25, 1908. He also leaves fourteen grandchildren and a wife to mourn his departure. He united with the Christian Church in 1890 near Monticello, Ill. Mr. Smith had been a constant sufferer for many years, but he bravely bore his burden unto the end. Death had no terrors for him. The funeral was held at his home in Grant township, conducted by Elder J. D. Dille of the Church of Christ. Interment was made in the Clearfield cemetery.
