Daily Gate City and Constitution-Democrat, Sunday, Thursday, Jan 25, 1866, Keokuk, IA, Page: 4

Jo. Brick, a notorious horse thief, escaped from jail at Bedford, Taylor Co., a few days ago. Someone supplied him with chloroform with which to silence the guards. He used it effectually, stole a watch, a pair of boots, and other articles of clothing from the guards, selected a fine horse, and fled. He left in writing in his cell a lengthily farewell address to his keeper with a request that it be published. He is still at large. We glean from the Republican.
