TAMA-Tanya R. Engstrom, 59, of Tama passed away Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Private memorial services will be held. A public memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday May 17, 2011 at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with the family present from 11 AM – 12 Noon and from 5 – 7 PM.
Tanya was born on September 2, 1951 in Keosauqua, Iowa the daughter of Ralph and Waneta (Thoman) Cole. She graduated from East High School in Des Moines in 1968. Tanya was united in marriage to Gene Engstrom on December 14, 1968 at St. John Lutheran Church in Des Moines. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and quilting. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her sister Jan Fitzgerald; and grandparents, Roy Cole and Sylvia Sampson and Florence and Fred Thoman.
Survivors include her husband Gene of Tama; parents, Ralph and Waneta Cole of Grinnell, five daughters, Tammy (Brian) Plowman of Marshalltown, Melissa (Tony) Sivola of Vinton, Christina (Rich) Stevens of West Des Moines, Marissa (Brent) Quandahl of Decorah, and Amanda (Mike) Flater of Plymouth, IN; thirteen grandchildren, Trista, Brad, Aubree, Kaitlyn, Corry, Trent, Ashlyn, Amaya, Ryan, Camryn, Addyson, Anna, and Karsyn, two brothers, Marv (Cindy) Cole of Redfield, IA and Rick (Amy) Cole of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. ~ The Des Moines (IA) Register, Tues 17 May 2011.
