Aloisia Lucy (Paleck) Kvidera
1887-1961

Joseph Stephen Kvidera was born on December 4, 1886 four miles northwest of Vining in Otter Creek Township. He was the eldest son of Joseph and Anna (Hanus) Kvidera. He accompanied his parents when they moved to Woodbury County in 1890.
Aloisia Lucy was born in Bohemia, July 25, 1887, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Kuzela) Palecek. She was four years old when she came to America with her parents in 1886, on a ship to the New York Port. The family settled on a farm eight miles south of Traer, where she was reared to womanhood.
On September 5, 1910, at St. Vaclav Catholic Church in Carroll Township, Joseph Stephen Kvidera and Aloisia Lucy Palecek were married.
They were parents of two sons, both of whom preceded their parents in death. Albert George was born April 7, 1912 and Victor Thomas was born December 21, 1913.
Albert George was born in Anthon, Iowa in Woodbury county. He graduated from Anthon High School. During World War II, he was a civilian instructor of airplane pilots for Federal Government. He had a landing strip on his farm two miles east of Traer, called Fairview Airport. Albert married Ida Marie Axler on May 27, 1941 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clutier. Ida the 2nd daughter of Vince and Julia (Salasek) Axler of rural Traer. Albert and Ida were the parents of three daughters: Barbara Helen born on June 26, 1943, Marilyn Ann, born on December 7, 1945, Kathleen Kay, born August 3, 1948. Albert died on March 24,1948, at the age of 36. Victor Thomas died on November 1, 1916, at the age of three.
The Kvidera's moved to 808 2nd Street in Traer in 1941, from their farm two miles east of Traer, where their beautiful flower gardens greeted visitors coming to Traer on Highway 8. Lucy was active in the Traer Garden Club. The Kvideras belong to the St. Paul's Catholic Church in Traer and were members of the K D Lodge in Clutier.
Joe worked at the War Hemp Mill and for Funk Bros. Seed Company which acquired the Hemp Mill plant after the war and he also worked three years as a fireman at the Traer Municipal Utilities. He helped area farmers shell corn.
Joe and Lucy celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with an open house in September 1960. Aloisia Lucy died October 27, 1961 at Traer. She is buried at St. Vaclav Cemetery in rural Clutier. Joe is now a resident at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer, where he celebrated his 100th birthday on December 4, 1986 with an open house.
