Rev. Father Dostal, who recently moved from Spillville to Chelsea, Ia., was drowned, at the latter place. We lack particulars, but the report is that he was drowned while bathing in the river. The news of his untimely death was a great shock to this community. Father Dostal had for several years been in charge of the parish at Spillville. His funeral took place at Chelsea.—Calmar Courier.

Rev. Jos. Dostal, who recently moved from this place to Chelsea, Iowa, was drowned while bathing in the Iowa river at the latter place. The news of his death was a shock to this community. Father Dostal had for several years been in charge of the Catholic parish here. The funeral was hold at Chelsea last Friday.

FATHER DOSTAL DROWNED
Former Priest at Spillville, Loses his Life while in Bathing.
Chelsea, July 9.—Rev. Father Joseph Dostal, pastor of the Catholic church at this place, was drowned in the Iowa river here Tuesday evening, In company with his brother, Rev. Dostal went to the river about a mile south of town, in the evening, to go bathing They entered the water, and Rev. Dostal was either caught in a strong undercurrent or was siezed with cramps and sank from sight before assistance could reach him. The body was recovered about 8:30, one-fourth of a mile below where the drowning occurred.
Rev. Father Dostal was installed pastor here, only last Sunday, having been assigned to this charge at the recent annual retreat at Dubuque. He came here from Spillville, Winneshiek county, succeeding Rev. Peter Kios, who was transferred to Spillville. Prior to his pastorate at Spillville, Rev Dostal had charge of the parishes of Oxford Junction and Prairieburg. He came to Iowa from the Nebraska diocese about five years ago. He was about 35 years of age. Rev. Dostal’s brother who was with him, has just opened a summer school and catechists’ class here.
