Leila A. Boldt, 87, of Marshalltown formerly of rural Garwin, died Friday, January 16, 2009 at Bickford Cottage in Marshalltown under the care of Iowa River Hospice, of an extended illness. Visitation was held Tuesday, January 20, at Overton Funeral Home in Garwin. Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at the Garwin United Methodist Church. Burial was in Crystal Cemetery, rural Toledo, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family. Overton Funeral Home, Garwin, Iowa was in charge of the services. Leila Anna Boldt was born April 20, 1921 in Garwin, IA, the daughter of Hugo and Christine Engel Mildenstein. She received her education in Tama County and then worked as a housekeeper for the Bohnstengel family in Traer. On June 26, 1941 she was united in marriage to Evan Boldt in Kirksville, MO. Evan and Leila made their home farming all their married life on a farm near Garwin. In later years they moved to the Embers Independent Living in Marshalltown. Following Evan’s death on March 26, 2006 she moved to the Bickford Cottage in Marshalltown where her death came on Friday, January 16, 2009 at the age of 87 years.

Leila was an active member of the Garwin United Methodist Church, UMW and Life Builders Class. She also enjoyed spending time playing cards and was a member of various card clubs within the community. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters; Mildred and Maxine and two great grandchildren. She is survived by her three children; Karen (Max) Bach of Gilman, IA, Vivian (Earl) Dunsbergen of Ankeny, IA and Wayne (Margie) Boldt of Glendale, AZ, one brother Arlo (Virginia) Mildenstein of Emporia, KS and 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 9 step grandchildren, 14 step great grandchildren and one step great grandchild.
