Hold Final Services For Tom Osem, Slater

Funeral services for Tom Osem were held on Saturday afternoon Oct. 29, at the Bethlehem Lutheran church in Slater. The rites were in charge of the Rev. P. E. Onstad, who also sang two solos, "How Blessed Is the Little Flock" and "Who Knows How Near May Life's Expended?"

The floral offerings were beautiful and gifts of money to the missions were given in his memory.

The pall bearers were all nephews of the deceased, Orris Osheim, Lawrence Osheim, Leroy Higgens and Rudolph Risdal, all from Roland, and Clifford Osam and Dwayne Osam of Ames. Burial was in the Roland cemetery.

Obituary

Tom Osem was born in Skaanevik, Norway, in January, 1873, and died the University hospital in Iowa City on October 25, 1949, at the age of 76 years.

His parents were Ole and Gundvar Osem. He spent his childhood in Norway. When 18 years old he accompanied his brother, Martin, to the United States and they made their home near Roland for a number of years.

He made his home in Slater for the past 20 years or more. He was never married, but always took an active part in community affairs. He served the town as mayor, councilman and marshal at various times.

Survivors

Surviving are four brothers, Ole Osem of Oakland, Calif., Martin Osam of Ames, Andrew Osheim and Olaus Osheim of Roland, and a number of nieces and nephews and other reltatives.
