Funeral Rites Held Today for David Christion

Final rites for David Christion, 34, Nevada merchant, who died at a hospital in Rochester, Minn. Tuesday afternoon, following a major surgical operation on Monday morning, were held at St. Patrick's church here at 9:30, with Rev. Fr. Gorman in charge. Burial was in St. Patrick's cemetery.

The services were attended by a large number of relatives and friends, including several from a distance. The death of Mr. Christion was especially sad because of his leaving a young wife and five small children.

David Christion was born at West Concord, Minn., November 29, 1903, a son of Mr. and Mrs. George Christion. The father is dead and the mother is now Mrs. L. A. Peck of Sioux Falls, S.D.

He was united in marriage to Miss Frances Hager at Vancouver, Washington in 1922.

They lived for about two years at Sioux Falls and then moved to West Concord. From there he was employed for a time in the Hormel Packing plant, before moving to Fort Dodge and starting as a salesman for that concern. This he continued until about six years ago when he moved to Nevada and took charge of the meat department of the Freeland store, which he continued until a few months before his death. Since then, he had been giving his personal attention to the management of a cold storage locker plant which he had promoted, as well as operating a killing and curing plant.

He had been ill for about three month during which time he had consulted local physicians and Des Moines specialists, finally going to Rochester to enter the Mayo clinic. He submitted to an operation for removal of a brain tumor on Monday and passed away at St. Mary's hospital there Tuesday afternoon at 2:45.

Mrs. Christion, who with friends had accompanied him to Rochester, was with him at the time of his death, as was a half sister who had joined them for Sioux Falls.

Mr. Christion leaves besides his young wife, five children, they being Douglas, age 14, Patricia, age 12, Jean, age 9, Kenneth, age 2, and Daniel, born January 1, 1937.

He also leaves his mother, Mrs. L. A. Peck of Sioux Falls, who is ill at this time and unable to be here for the funeral; half-sisters, Mrs. A. Lilyquist and Miss Marguerite Peck of Sioux Falls and a number of step-brothers.

Among relatives here for the funeral of the late Dave Christion of Ninth street, Nevada, who was buried this morning after services at St. Patrick's church, was an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Blythe* of Dubuque and the half sisters, Mrs. L. Lilyquist and Miss Marguerite Peck of Sioux Falls, S. D. A group of friends drove down from Fort Dodge Friday and called upon Mrs. Christion but were unable to remain over for the funeral service today.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: This should be Roy Blythe, not Ray Blythe as stated. David Christion's mother was Eugenia L. (Blythe) Christion Peck. Roy Arden Blythe and Eugenia L. Blythe were the children of David Blythe and Nina Davis.
