DEATH OF JOHN BURNS.

Father of Colo and McCallsburg Men Passed Away.

Colo, Aug. 29--The funeral of the late John Burns, father of Joseph Burns, of this city, whose death took place at State Center, on Thursday evening, was held from St. Joseph Catholic church at State Center Saturday forenoon at ten o'clock, Rev. Father H. F. Roney officiating. Interment was at the Catholic burying grounds at Hillside. The death of Mr. Burns was due to a general break down.

Mr. Burns was born in Kilrush, County Clare, Ireland June 6, 1833. He emigrated to New York at the at the age of 15 years and for several years the family lived in New York. There Mr. Burns was united in marriage with Miss Susan Richards and later and his wife came west, settling on a farm near Iowa City. They lived on the Johnson county farm until twelve years ago, then they came to State Center.

Aside from his wife Mr. Burns is survived by eleven children--seven sons and four daughters. The children are William and John Burns and Mrs. Elizabeth Potsander of State Center; James, of Oxford; Hugh, of McCallsburg; Michael, of Weldon, Decatur county; Joseph of Colo; Mrs. Rose Thompson, of St. Louis; Mrs. Ella Borton, of Clemons; and Charles Burns and Mrs. Mary Kearns, of Marshalltown.
