MRS. ELLEN NESSA

Ellen Andrine (Mathison) Nessa was born January 10, 1884, on a farm in Story County. She was the youngest child of Serena and Ole Mathison. The family later moved to Roland. She died on February 3, 1959, at the age of 75 years and 24 days, of a heart condition having been ill for 6 weeks.

Mrs. Nessa went to school in Roland and was confirmed by Rev. Smedal in the Bergen Lutheran church. At the age of 18 she became the wife of Sven Johan Nessa, at that time station agent on the M. & S. L. railway at Zearing. Five children were born to the Nessa's two dying in infancy.

The Nessa family moved to Story City in 1910 and became members of the St. Petri Lutheran church. Mrs. Nessa has been a member of the Ladies Aid society and a year ago received her life membership pin.

Funeral Services

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 5 at the St. Petri church with a short prayer service in the chapel for the family preceding the service, the Rev. T. J. Alvestad officiating at both services. Mrs. Alfred Jacobson accompanied Mrs. Robert Hermanson, who sang two solos.

Interment was in the Story City Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Ed Ose, W. N. Larson, Theodore Larson, Franklin Booth, T. C. Chelsvig and Martin Olson.

Besides her husband who died in 1943, her parent and nine brothers and sisters have preceded her in death. Survivors are three daughters: Ethel (Mrs. G. H. Foster), Florence (Mrs. Raymond Kammin), both of Story City, and Stella (Mrs. Leland Frost) of Oakland, California; and seven grandchildren.
