Mrs. George Cook Rites Held Here at Christian Church

Funeral services for Mrs. George Cook were held from the Nevada Christian church Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, Jan. 20, with the Rev. W. R. Tuttle officiating.

Mrs. Arlene Huhn and Mrs. Darlene Upchurch sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Abide With Me," accompanied at the organ by Virginia Bierschwal.

The many flowers, which filled the entire front of the church, were cared for by Mrs. Frank Hill, Mrs. Mildred Nelson and Mrs. C. A. Ryan.

The casket bearers were Rollin Coughenour, Frank Hill, Henry Hitzhousen, Ray Hogan, William C. Moon and George Staute.

Burial was made in Woodland cemetery at Iowa Center.

Obituary

Fern Ethel (Coughenour) Cook was born March 13, 1905 to Samuel H. and Ida E. Coughenour, who lived on a farm north of Maxwell. She died, after nearly a year of illness, on Jan. 16, 1959, at the Story County Hospital at the age of 53 years, 10 month and 16 days.

On Feb. 9, 1926 Fern was united in marriage to George H. Cook at Marshalltown. To this union a son George Hobart and a daughter Marilyn were born. Mr. and Mrs. Cook lived most of the time in Story county, however they did live for some time in Cerro Gordo county, Iowa and Roanoke, Va. Where ever she lived, Fern was a devoted wife and mother and made many friends by her loyalty and kindness.

Early in life she united in faith with the Christian church of Nevada. She attended the public schools of Nevada and graduated from high school in 1923.

She was a member of and active in the Dalton Ladies Aid Society, W.W.W. Club, Alpha Dalphian Club, Iowa Center Cemetery Society, American Legion Auxilliary of Maxwell and the Gold Star Mothers.

Fern Cook was preceded in death by her parents and her son George Hobart, Jr., who was killed May 19, 1945, while serving with the armed forces in the Philippines during World War II.

Surviving are her husband, George H. Cook, a daughter Mrs. Marilyn Erickson, a granddaughter, Joy Annetta Erickson of Nevada. She is also survived by one brother, Harold Coughenour of Maxwell and a sister, Mrs. Mildred Hamberg of Maxell, other relatives and friends.
