Dorothy M. Heisler, age 97, of Ames, Iowa, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2017, at her residence of Ames, Iowa.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at St. John’s United Methodist Church, of Mapleton, Iowa. Rev. Jena Manchester & Rev. Dr. Gary Armstrong will officiate; with committal services following in the Little Sioux Township Cemetery of Smithland, Iowa. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at the St. John’s United Methodist Church of Mapleton, Iowa. The Armstrong - Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Condolences may be sent online www.armstrongfuneral.com

Dorothy M. Heisler, died September 14, 2017, in Ames, IA. Her death came a month before her 98th birthday.

Dorothy Heisler, the daughter of Claude and Dora (Miller) Cox, was born on October 12, 1919, on a farm near Hornick, IA. When she was four years old, the family moved to a farm near Smithland, Iowa.

Dorothy was a caretaker taking care of family members, friends, and neighbors. Her family and friends were special to her. On December 26, 1946, she married Marchmont Heisler and they farmed near Smithland, Iowa. Dorothy took an active part in helping with the farming. They moved to Mapleton, Iowa in 1992.

Dorothy moved to Ames, Iowa in 2003, where she lived with her grandson Brent. The last eight years he was her caring caretaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers Merle, Howard, and Paul; sisters Irma Metcalf and Myrna Woodward.

Dorothy’s family includes her daughter, Jeannie (Eldon) Weber of Ames, IA; grandchildren Bradley (Katie) Weber of Dallas, TX, Brian Weber and Brent Weber of Ames, IA; great grandchildren Ward, Molly, Alex, Madison, Lauren, Brody and Blair; nieces, nephews, and extended family.
