Bruce Bernard Black, age 79, of Oshkosh, died on February 15, 2017 of natural causes. He was born on June 29, 1937 in Glen Ellen, IL, to Henry and Bernice Black. He was raised in Iowa and graduated from Ames High in 1955. Iowa was home. He served in the US Army, was an Iowa State graduate and he earned his PhD from Purdue University.

A resident of Oshkosh since 1963, Dr. Black was a retired psychology professor from UW-Oshkosh and past president, WI chapter of the American Association of University Professors. As a Boy Scout and longtime Scouter, he earned Eagle as a youth, served Troop 1, First Congregational Church as scoutmaster and was awarded Silver Beaver as an adult. He lived by the scout motto, 'Do a Good Turn Daily', enthusiastically shoveling snow for a neighbor and picking up every piece of litter. Dr. Black was member of Kiwanis and a Red Cross Volunteer. A proud organ donor, he donated a kidney to his sister in 1981.

He is survived by sister Bernice (Loyal) Durand, Aspen CO; children Brian (Patricia), Escanaba, MI, Bruce E. (Beth), St. Paul, MN, Sarah, Anchorage AK, Alexandria (Josh) Oemig, and Benjamin, both of Oshkosh; and grandchildren, Henry, Maya, Ian and Sonja.

A memorial service will be held at the UW-Oshkosh Alumni Center at 3pm, Friday, September 29, 2017. His ashes will be interred at the Iowa State University Cemetery. Memorials preferred to Bay-Lakes Council, BSA, camperships, or the Henry M. Black Scholarship Fund, Iowa State University, Ames IA.
