Clifton H. Ince was born on November 1, 1889. He was the son of Thomas H. and Louisa Pernita Stark Ince. While small, his parents moved to Missouri and later to a farm near Woodward, Iowa, where Cliff finished his schooling and assumed farm duties after the death of his father in May, 1909. In 1918, Cliff and his mother moved to Maxwell. Cliff and Laura Hilton were married on January 25, 1928. One son was born, but died in infancy. Laura was born in Cambridge, Iowa, June 24, 1885, and lived in the Cambridge/Maxwell area her entire life.

Cliff was employed by the Sherman Hardware for many years until his retirement in 1954. Cliff died April 27, 1967. Laura lived to be 94 years-old and died August 15, 1979.

Cliff and Laura spent several winters in Florida after his retirement and spent much time combing the beaches for shells.

Laura's grandfather, James B. Hilton, was a Civil War veteran. He was held in the Andersonville Prison in 1864 and 1865. White there, he became ill from exposure and retained permanent disability. He was discharged at Davenport, Iowa, May 1865 at the age of 31. After his death, according to the Act of June 27, 1890, his widow, Mrs. Clarissa H. Hilton, was entitled to a pension of $8 month to commence on September 3, 1902. This pension was increased at various times until it amounted to $25 month in 1917.
