In Response To: Spelling of names (Vivian Prins Harper)

Sorry the delay in getting to you on this.
I usually refer back to the origins of the name as in the case of Schutt it was most probably Schut in the Netherlands. Prins I have seen various spellings also as Prince.
Sometimes the families just wanted a way to isolate their name from many like surnames in an area so they added an extra letter or used a more American spelling.
Also, when making the family tree the names can be lists as Schut/Schutt etc to reveal the various spellings.
In the case of our surname - Vande Berg, it was van den Berg in the Netherlands and it became a variation of 10 different spellings through the decades in the USA.
Understandably you want the most correct spelling which then should go back to the primary source in which the name was first found in the records.
Hope I have helped.
