Mr. Lane Mars, age 37, of Orange City, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2026, at his home.
A visitation with the family present will be held on Friday, July 10, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Maurice Reformed Church in Maurice. There will be a funeral service on Saturday, July 11, at 10:00am, at the church with Rev. Wick Hubers and Pastor Ross Hoekstra officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Sherman Township Cemetery near Maurice. The Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City is in charge of arrangements.
Lane David was born on August 31, 1988, in Orange City, the son of Jason and Roxanne (De Jager) Mars. He was raised in Orange City and graduated from the MOC-Floyd Valley High School. He then earned his degree in Aviation and Airport management at Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville and finished his bachelor’s degree in Ag Business at Dordt College in Sioux Center.
On June 4, 2010, he was united in marriage to Sarah Wielenga in Maurice. They made their home in Orange City and were blessed with two daughters, Jaylynn and Jacoba. Lane worked as a pilot for AirFlair and at R&M Spraying during the summer spray season. More recently, he worked as a diesel mechanic at 3D Transportation.
Lane was a member of the Maurice Reformed Church, where he had served as a deacon. He enjoyed flying, off-road Jeeping, canoeing and hiking, but most importantly, spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of more than sixteen years, Sarah, of Orange City; two daughters, Jaylynn and Jacoba Mars, both of Orange City; his father, Jason Mars, of Upton, Wyoming; a sister and her husband, Jessica and Renan Viana da Silva, of Brazil; Sarah’s parents, Harlan and Jane Wielenga, of Orange City; and her siblings, Maria, and her husband, Allen Mulder, of Rock Valley; Mark Wielenga, and his wife, Jen, of Orange City; Chris Wielenga, and his wife, Amanda, of Alcester, South Dakota; Dave Wielenga, of Ireton; and Hannah Wielenga, of Orange City.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Roxanne Mars.
Memorials will be given to the Orange City Christian School and Village Northwest Unlimited in Sheldon.
