Mr. Ernest “Ernie” Moss, age 92, of Hull, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2026, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

A visitation with the family present will be held on Tuesday, July 7, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the American Reformed Church in Hull. There will be a funeral service on Wednesday, July 8, at 10:30am, at the church with the Rev. Mark Cercone officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. The Oolman Funeral Home in Hull is in charge of arrangements.

Ernest Eldon, the son of Cornelius “Neal” and Mathilde (De Boer) Moss, was born on April 5, 1934, on his parents' farm east of Hull. He grew up on the farm and graduated from the Hull High School. After high school, he began farming with his father.

On September 5, 1958, he was united in marriage to Ruth June Warntjes in Sioux Center. Together they made their home on the farm east of Hull where they raised their five children. In 2000, their oldest son and his family moved to the farm, and Ernie and Ruth moved to a home in Hull. In January of 2024, Ernie became a resident of the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, and in February of 2025, he moved to the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

Ernie was a life-long member of the American Reformed Church in Hull, where he served on the consistory and taught Sunday School. He also served on the boards of the Boyden-Hull Schools, the Farmer’s Cooperative Station, and as part of the Sioux County Extension Council. He was an avid fan of sports, and in earlier years enjoyed playing tennis and softball as well as golfing and looked forward to watching his children and grandchildren participate in their various extracurricular activities. Ernie also enjoyed traveling, and he and Ruth were able to visit almost every state and several other countries, as well as spend numerous winters in Mesa, Arizona.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of more than 67 years, Ruth, of Orange City; five children and their spouses, Lyndon and Debra Moss, of Hull; Douglas and Connie Moss, of Waverly; Bruce and Christy Moss, of Omaha, Nebraska; Rachel and Gary Duesenberg, of Orange City; and Bradley and Karena Moss, of Castle Rock, Colorado; fourteen grandchildren, Derrick Moss, and his wife, Megan; Bryce Moss, and his wife, Sarah; Austin Moss, and his wife, Samantha; Maggie, and her husband, Nate Jones; Bailey, and her husband, Tanner Schumacher; Keaton Moss, and his wife, Betsy; Kelsey, and her husband, Jonathan McCracken; Ryan Duesenberg, and his wife, Hilary; Lauren Duesenberg; Olivia, and her husband, Nathan Strumpfer; Simon Moss; Isabel Moss; Emma Moss; and Joseph Moss; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Maxine and Richard Lampe, of Storm Lake; and Luella and Larry Johnson, of Springfield, Missouri; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife’s parents, Richard and Lillian Warntjes, he was preceded in death by four siblings and their spouses, Clifford and Shirley Moss, Audrey and Leonard Topp, Mildred and Marinus Maasland, and Harold and Mary Moss; and a sister-in-law and her husband, Anna Mae and Kenneth Horstman.

Memorials will be given to Samaritan’s Purse and the American Reformed Church in Hull.
