Dirk Addengast, who is well and favorable know, was born in Eilsum, Ostriesland, Germany, October 29, 1832, and died at the home of his son, John Addengast, northeast of town, at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 14, over 86 years of age.

He was married n Germany, October 24, 1863 to Miss Altje Konstant. The happy young couple came to America’s shores in May 1869, settling in Stephenson county, near Freeport IL. Where they resided until coming to this vicinity in 1889 to make their permanent home.

To this couple was born eight children, one dying in infancy; a 2 ½ year old girl Alice passed away on shipboard and was buried mid ocean. A. Ed Addengast died here August 25, 1906. Mrs. Addengast passed away at Matlock December 14, 1904.

Besides a host of friends and relatives left to mourn his loss are his living children; John Addengast, Henry A. Addengast, Mrs. H. V. Behrends, Mrs. Geo W. Harms and Mrs. J. W. Krahling, all of Matlock, George, Ashton and vicinity. Mr. Addengast’s death witnesses the end of a long and useful life and was not altogether unexpected. Mr. Addengast was ready, having always lied an exemplary and Christian life.

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church near George Monday afternoon, Rev. F. Beving and Rev. Tracht and Rev. B. Smede conducting the services.
