Kenneth Brian Mouw of Elk Point, South Dakota died at home on February 13, 2024, of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis after being cared for by his wife in recent months. He was born to Bernard and Marie Mouw on the Mouw family homestead west of Sioux Center on November 27, 1944. The family later moved to a farm south of Boyden where Ken attended country school and graduated from Floyd Valley High School in 1962.

Ken proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for five years. He was stationed in Misawa, Japan where he was the editor of the base newspaper, The Wingspan, and was published several times in The Stars and Stripes. After his service, Ken graduated from the University of Iowa in 1970, and became a Certified Public Accountant. Ken and his family settled in Greenwood, South Carolina where he founded a successful accounting firm, served on many boards, and was active in the community. Ken later sold his accounting firm before embarking on his first retirement and returning home to Iowa. Ken launched his second career in Sioux Center, Iowa, where he joined the management of SiouxPreme Packing Company, serving for several years as majority owner and Chief Executive Officer before his second retirement in 2002.

Ken was an avid Hawkeye and Minnesota Twins fan and looked forward to annual fishing trips to Canada with family. Ken was particularly proud of his two grandsons, often traveling long distances to see them and watch their sporting events. Ken married his wife Colleen in 2007 and was a loving, generous, and humorous husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Ken enjoyed going to casinos, special restaurants, and escaping the harsh South Dakota winters with his wife to their home on Fort Myers Beach to enjoy the sun and fishing. Ken’s greatest joy and happiest place was working on his farm north of Elk Point where he raised and trained draft horses and mules.

Ken is survived by his wife, Colleen Mouw, two daughters, Meagan (Donald) Weese of Papillion, NE, and Lauren (Michael) Sartwell of San Diego, CA; two grandsons, Matthew and Benjamin Sartwell; his siblings John (Judy) Mouw of Davenport, IA; Janet Franke of Lake Havasu City, AZ; Phyllis (Collyn) Peterson of Overland Park, KS; Bob (Shirley) Mouw of Alton, IA; brother-in-law Bill (Shirley) Muilenburg of Orange City, IA; and Colleen’s family.

Ken is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Daniel Sartwell; sister, Norma Muilenburg; and brother-in-law, Dean Franke. Ken will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

In Lieu of Flowers, memorials can be made to Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 East Ohio Street, Suite 500, Chicago, IL 60611 and/or Rejoice Radio, P.O. Box 18000, Pensacola, FL 32523
