Ruby Janssen, age 87 of Sibley, Iowa passed away Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Sibley Specialty Care in Sibley. Private burial will take place, Friday, January 19th at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, Iowa.

All are invited to attend a Celebration of Life meal at the First Presbyterian Church of Sibley, on Saturday, February 10th from 11-1 PM in the fellowship hall.

Flowers are not preferred, memorials may be directed to: First Presbyterian Church in Sibley.

Ruby Henrietta, daughter of Henry and Anna (Schipper) Reiter, was born on October 10, 1936 in Rushmore, MN. She grew up in rural Sibley, attended country school until 8th grade and then graduated from Sibley High School. Upon graduation, Ruby began working full time as State Clerk at the Osceola Soil and Water Conservation office. It was a job she truly enjoyed.

Ruby was united in marriage to Gerrit Vreeman of Sheldon, Iowa on August 21, 1958. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Rhonda, Jerry, Keith and Craig. The couple lived and farmed in rural Matlock for many years before moving to South Dakota and then Minnesota where they continued to farm. In June of 2000 they retired and moved to Sibley. Gerrit passed away in 2002.

Ruby enjoyed playing the piano and organ at the Matlock Reformed Church. She loved spending time with her family. She was a terrific mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Ruby married Harold Janssen on December 26, 2009. They resided on a farm near Sibley, Iowa. Ruby treasured her time back on the farm. Every Sunday the extended family gathered for a delicious meal that Ruby loved preparing. Harold passed away in January 2019 and Ruby moved to a condo in Sibley. As her health declined it was necessary for her to move to Sibley Specialty Care where she lived until she went to heaven on January 18, 2024.

Ruby is survived by her four children; Rhonda (Rich) Van Klompenburg of Hospers, Iowa; Jerry (Lois) Vreeman of Sheldon, Iowa; Keith (Toni) Vreeman and Craig (Connie) Vreeman both of Edgerton, Minnesota; eleven grandchildren and twenty seven great grandchildren. Ruby is also survived by her siblings Donna Grave and Paul (Carmen) Reiter of Sibley, Iowa.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, Gerrit and Harold, her parents, her brothers, Ronald, Earl, and Dale, and her sister Lucille.
