From the Alton Democrat, October 20, 1939, Granville news:

Mr. Andrew Miller, former resident of this community, passed away at his home at West Bend Sunday after an illness of several months.

Mr. Miller was born in Kylertown, Clearfield county, Pennsylvania, on Dec. 2, 1855, and was 83 years and 10 months old at the time of his death. At the age of four years he came with his parents to Warren Co., Iowa. At the age of 21 he came to Granville, residing on a farm near here for ten years, then moving to West Bend where he has since lived.

He was married to Susan Jandle in West Bend on July 25, 1893. To this union three children were born, namely Mrs. John Wagner of Mallard, Martin A. Miller of Hardy and Dr. A. J. Miller of Granville. Besides the three children he leaves the widow and one grandchild, Gwendolyn Miller, of Granville.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at St. Peter & Paul Catholic church, West Bend, of which Mr. Miller was a devout member. Rev. P. M. Dobberstein had charge of the services. Interment was made in the West Bend cemetery.

Those from here attending the funeral were Dr. and Mrs. A. J. Miller and Gwendolyn, Mr. and Mrs. John Thorman, Mrs. Catherine Graft, Mrs. Theresa Callenius, Joe and Jacob List, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Johnson, Mrs. George Berman, Miss Julia Schilmoeller, Mrs. Joe Bachman and Mrs. Chris Lemke, the latter of Primghar.

The West Bend Journal, October 5, 1939, published a similar obituary, adding that the Millers made their home on their farm east of town until 1918 when they retired and moved into West Bend.

Mr. Miller was a devout member of Sts. Peter & Paul’s Catholic church. He was a frugal, hard-working man, a good neighbor, father and husband. After moving to town, he was not content with being idle, but took a keen interest in his holdings, and to keep busy he had his garden and chickens and repair work on the farm to look after. The writer [not identified] enjoyed frequent visits with him and we prized his friendship. He was one of the pioneers of this section.
