PASSED AWAY AT HOME OF HER DAUGHTER JULY 28TH------FUNERAL HELD IN HAWARDEN MONDAY AFTERNOON---SURVIVED BY HUSBAND AND EIGHT CHILDREN

Mrs. Lewis “Lou” W. Akin, for many years a resident of this community, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jennie Cowley, at Goose Creek, Texas, on Wednesday, July 28th. The body was brought back to Hawarden, accompanied by one of her sons, arriving here Sunday, and on Monday afternoon funeral services were held at the home and then at the Church, with Reverend W.A. WinterStein of Laurens, Iowa, her former pastor, in charge. His message was one of inspiration and helpfulness to the bereaved family and friends. Burial was made in the family lot in Grace Hill Cemetery.

Mary Arminta Walters was born at Jefferson, South Dakota, on March 8, 1874, daughter of John and Jane (Smith) Walters and departed this life on July 28, 1926, at the age of 52 years, 4 months, and 20 days. On February 22, 1891, she was united in marriage with Lou W. Akin and to this union were born nine children, all of whom are now living except the youngest who died in infancy. Mrs. Akin spent almost all of her life in the vicinity of Hawarden, but on the South Dakota side of the river. During the last several years she has lived and visited more or less in Texas, and last winter near the first of the year her health not being up to the usual standard, she went to Texas in the hope that the climate might afford relief, but after temporary relief her condition steadily grew more alarming and it was known that she was going down the valley toward the setting of the sun, and on July 28th she took her departure, leaving to mourn her going her husband, Lou W. Akin of Hawarden; and children, Mrs. Jennie Cowley of Goose Creek, Texas, Mrs. Myrtle Williams of Ainsworth, Nebraska, Earl Akin of Hawarden, Floyd Akin and Robert Akin, both of Goose Creek, Texas, Mrs. Grace Williams of Alton, Mrs. Bonnie Jenson and Bert Akin, both of Hawarden. Besides these there are one sister and two brothers, Mrs. Edith Everhart of Bushnell, Nebraska and John Walters and Delbert Walters, both of Leonard, North Dakota. There are also several grandchildren and other relatives.

Mrs. Akin was converted and together with other members of her family united with the Methodist Episcopal Church and was a faithful and devout servant of the Lord and Master throughout her life. She was one of the most faithful attendants and workers in the church while her health permitted. The sincere sympathy goes out to the members of the grief stricken family who have been bereft of a devoted wife and mother.
