F. J. (“Joe) Kamber had a photography and jewelry business in Alton, Iowa in the 1880s and 1890s before moving to Colorado for his health in 1900. His two children, Abbie and Earl, were born in Alton in 1885 and 1891. The obituaries of Anna (Mrs. F. J.) and Abbie (posted separately), both of whom died in 1939, give some additional family information. No death date was found for F. J. Kamber. An Ancestry.com search for Earl Kamber found him to have died in Denver on October 31, 1941; no obituary was located The following information on Earl G. Kamber was gleaned from Ancestry.com:

U.S. census records: 1900, age 8, born Aug. 1891 in Iowa, living in Alton with his parents and sister. 1910, what looks like the family, including him as Arle G. (age 18) is living in Colorado Springs, with him clerking in a jewelry store, probably his father’s. 1920, not found. 1930 (age 38), a watchmaker, living in Denver at 36 Clarkson Street with his widowed mother Anna and sister Abbie. The 1940 census for Denver gives his full name, Earl Glenmore Kamber, age 48, single, born in Iowa, living (renting) at 36 Clarkson Street, lived in same house in 1935, no occupation given, is not working.

There is a marriage license and certificate from El Paso County, Colorado for groom Earl Kamber, age 23 (born about 1892), resident of Colorado Springs; bride Mrs. Clara Rosenthal, age 32, resident of Memphis, Tenn., divorced from her previous husband in Memphis on May 18, 1914, for non-support; married in Colorado Springs on 20 May 1915. There is a Colorado Divorce Index record for Earl Kamber and Clara Kamber, divorced in El Paso County on 22 September 1915.

The 1916 Colorado Springs city directory shows Earl G. Kamber as a watchmaker, living with his parents, jeweler and optician Frank J. Kamber and Anna Kamber and his sister Abbie A., a music teacher, at 528 E. Bijou.

His World War draft registration card (August 1917) has Earl Glenmore Kamber, age 25, born May 15, 1892 in Alton, Iowa; living at 528 Bijou St., Colorado Springs; a watch maker, working for U. O. Maltby in Manitou, Colorado; single, with a dependent mother; medium height and build, blue eyes, light brown hair.
