From the Alton Democrat, October 13, 1939:

Mrs. Anna Kamber of Denver, oldest sister of Mrs. Peter Goebel, died Oct. 7th at her home, a month after the death of her daughter, Miss Abby, on Sept. 9th, according to news received by the Goebel family from Earl Kamber of Denver who is the only surviving member of the family. Early residents here will recall the Kamber family, Mr. Kamber having had a photograph studio in the Goebel building for some years. Mrs. Kamber was about 76 years of age.

From the Sioux County Capital, October 19, 1939, Alton news:

The P. Goebel family received word from Earl Kamber in Denver, Colo. announcing the death of his mother who is Mrs. Goebel’s sister. Mrs. Kamber died one month after her daughter Abbie passed away on Sept. 9. The Kamber family were residents of Alton for a number of years. Mr. Kamber was a photographer and also had a jewelry store here and Mrs. Kamber had a millinary shop. Their two children Abbie and Earl were both born in Alton. Mr. Kamber died a number of years ago.

Her FindaGrave page has Anna Kamber, born 1864, buried 9 Oct 1939 in Fairmount Cemetery, Denver. No other information.

The 1900 U.S. census has J---[?, nearly illegible] Kamber, age 39, born in Iowa Nov. 1860, a photographer, married 16 years; wife Annie or Anna [nearly illegible], age 35, born July 1864 in Iowa, parents born in Germany; children Abbie (15) and Earl (8), both born in Iowa.

In 1910 what looks like the same family is living in Colorado Springs: Joseph L. Kamber, age 49, born in Iowa of German parents, a jeweler and optician; wife Anna, age 46, born in Iowa of German parents, mother of 2 children, both living; daughter Alice E., age 28, born in Iowa, a city school teacher; son Arle G, age 18, born in Iowa, a jewelry store clerk.

In 1920 Anna (56) is widowed and living in Colorado Springs; neither of her children is listed with her. In 1930 she is living in Denver with Abbie (45), a public school teacher, and Earl (38), a watchmaker.

News notes and advertisements in the Alton Democrat in 1900 refer to her husband as F. J. Kamber or Joe Kamber. He moved with his family to Colorado in that year in hopes that the climate would benefit his asthma. No death information about him was located.
