Former Center Twp. Man Dies in West

Word was received here by friends of the death of Everett Rogers of Kelso. Wash., who passed away at his home on Tuesday of last week following a prolonged illness of an incurable malady.

Deceased was 55 years of age. He came as a child from Black Hawk county with his parents and settled on a farm in Center township. Upon reaching young manhood he went to the western states, settling first in Idaho and later to Washington state where he was united in marriage with Lucy Kandsail, who passed from his life in 1906. Later he was married to Bessie McClain, who with two children survive him. There are also five children form the first marriage.

Mr. Roger was a carpenter by profession and made many trips and worked frequently in Sioux county. His last visit was about a year ago when he was enroute to Rochester, Minn. to seek relief for his failing health. Funeral services and burial was made in Kelso Wash. Beside his wife and seven children, he is survived by two brothers, Bert of Ireton and George of Estherville, Ia.

An obituary in the Alton Democrat, April 22, 1938 (calling him George Rogers) adds that he died of cancer.

His FindaGrave.com page gives his full name as Everett Andrew Rogers, born 22 April 1883 in Ireton, Sioux County; died 5 March 1938 in Kelso, Cowlitz County, Washington; buried in Cowlitz View Memorial Gardens, Kelso; parents George Andrew Rogers (1851-1918) and Isabella Lesher Rogers (1855-1911). Six siblings listed. Spouses: Lucy May Hansell Rogers (1882-1914, married 1906) and Bessie Sophia McClain Rogers (1890-1957, married 1916). Children: Elsie May Rogers (1909-1976), Lucy Marie Rogers Scott (1914-1984), Lucy Mary Rogers Koch (1914-1988), Twyla Yvonne Rogers Olmstead (1917-1998), and Leland Everett Rogers (1919-1990).

The 1910 U.S. census for Dixie Precinct, Washington County, Idaho. shows him as Evert Rogers, age 27, married 3 years, born in Iowa, a grain farmer; wife Lucy, age 28, born in Oregon; children George (2) and Claire (1), both born in Idaho. The 1920 census for Dixie Precinct shows Everett A. Rogers (37), a general farmer; wife Bessie S. (29), born in Missouri; and children George H. (12), born in Idaho, Elsie M. (10), born in Idaho, Wilburt A. (7), born in Idaho, Twyla Y. (2-1/12), born in Oregon, and Leland E. (6/12), born in Idaho. The 1930 census for McGowan Precinct, Cowlitz County, Washington, shows him as Everette A. Rogers (47), age at first marriage 22, a feed store delivery man; wife Bessie S. (40), age at first marriage 26; children Wilburt A. (17), Twyla E. (12), and Leland E. (10).

His World War I draft registration card (Sept. 1918) shows him as Everett A. Rogers, age 35, resident of Midvale, Idaho, born 22 April 1883, a farmer, nearest relative Bessie S. Rogers; tall, medium build, blue eyes, red hair

The marriage register for Cambridge Town, Washington County, Idaho shows Everett A. Rogers, age 32, residence Midvale, born in Iowa, previously married, and Bessie McClain, age 26, residence Cambridge, born in Missouri, not married previously, married 22 March 1916.
