Mrs. Gerrit J. Slobe, formerly Evelyne Haspers, a daughter of Cornelius and Nellie (Galman) Haspers, early settlers in Sioux County died April 13, 1973, after an illness of several weeks.

She was born September 8, 1887 in Orange City. She married Gerrit J. Slobe October 1912. He was an Orange City businessman well known to this community for his civic and church endeavors. He predeceased his wife by several years.

Mrs. Slobe has been closely associated with the American Reformed Church all of her life. She sang in the choir at an early age and will be remembered for her contribution to music in northwest Iowa. She has been active in women’s organizations, education and civic affairs.

Survivors include a daughter Kathleen S. Johnston of Rockwell City, Iowa and a son Stanley of Huntsville, Alabama, eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and a sister Mrs. J.C. Gleysteen of Orange City.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 P.M. Monday the 16th at the American Reformed Church with Reverend Alvin Hook officiating. Active pallbearers are: Dewey Wiersma, Robert Dunlop, Wayland Breeze, Al Heemstra, Terry Rens and Pat Balkema. Honorary pallbearers are: William Courbier, Herman Moret, Charles De Vries.

Burial will be under the direction of the Van Etten Funeral Home. The family wishes to notify friends of the establishment of an Organ Memorial Fund for the American Reformed Church.
